Nineteenth Century c.1860

Anonymous Painter working perhaps in France

Still Life of kitchen objects: A loaf of Bread, garlic, a knife, a salt glazed earthenware pot and a glass of beer or cider.

Oil Painting on Panel, 9 1/2 x 13 inches (24.2 x 33cm)

Fully signed (but illegible)

Note

This charming painting cannot be by no one, nor by an unknown amateur.  Besides it is clearly and proudly signed.  But try as I may, I cannot make the signature into anything by any artist known to me. It has been suggested that these might be Russian or Greek letters, but no one has been able to help there either.  It seems a shame that so fine and charming a work should sink into anonymity.
