ANTOINE-PIERRE PATEL

1648 - Paris - 1707

 Landscape

 Canvas 42 x 60 cm (16 ¾ x 23 ¾ inches)

Note

Antoine Pierre was the son of Pierre Patel the elder and like his father worked on the decorations of the Louvre. He died as a result of a duel.

This painting may be part of a series of twelve months formerly at the Jesuit Convent of St Louis la Culture in Paris which was removed during the French Revolution.

Two pictures from the series (the months January and April) are now in the Louvre INV. Nos 7133 & 7134. Two more, Louvre INV 7135/6 representing August and September are on permanent loan from the Louvre to the Château de Maisons-Lafitte. October is in the Museum of San Francisco, while November and December are at the Museum of Schwerin in Germany. February is known to be in a Private Collection as now is June, formerly in our possession:  That picture was dated 1699 and the whole commission was finished in the same year.

With the discovery of the present picture only one remaining painting is missing. If this is correct the Provenance would be:  Convent Church of St.Louis-la-Culture, Paris
