Alexandre-Hyacinthe Dunouy

1757 – Paris – Lyon - 1841

A Pair of Italian Landscapes with figures

Oil painting on Panel, 12 ½ x 11 ½ inches (32 x 29cm)

Both signed lower right

Note:

A pupil of Briant, Dunouy exhibited at the Salon de Jeunesse in 1781  and at the Salon proper from 1791 to 1833.   He was much patronised by Murat, King of Naples, and in consequence most of his scenic paintings are of Italy, especially the countryside around Naples and in the Apennines. The figures in these paintings are often painted by either Taunay or Demarne; stylistically the latter is more likely in this case. A great many of his paintings hang or hung at Fontainebleau, the Trianon, the Château of Compiègne, Saint-Cloud and other royal and noble palaces and in the Bishop’s Palace at Orléans. Many of these are now in museums around France.
