I have been on the vetting committee for Old Master Paintings of Grosvenor House Fair and Maastricht, but it is getting to be a while ago.
Sometimes an Antique fair may be worth a mention - they have become the showpiece whereby the trade (the body of dealers) shows its strength and displays its wares. It is at these Fairs that the dealers can show en masse that they represent a significant input - the autioneers with their massive means and immense PR departments obviously get the greatest publicity. They push their high prices into the papers and then tell you what a bargain you can buy at auction - can they have it both ways?
In fact we no longer exhibit at any fairs but we go to many to see what people are up to and to buy as we go to many auctions. We shall not tell all.
