Fine Paintings & Sculpture
Welcome to our art gallery. If you had any difficulty finding us on the World Wide Web may we suggest you make a BOOKMARK on your machine right now so that you can easily find us again by clicking on it next time you feel like a visit. This is a large site and you are unlikely to see it all in one visit. If you want to contact us just click now on info@wengraf.com
We have fine Paintings and Sculpture and sometimes other items too, including modern works, all for sale. You can see a very small selection on the left of this page and then see other images of works of a similar type by clicking on the image. Then you can either elect to see an enlargement of any one of these works and/or written details about each piece by clicking on that image. We also offer appraisals & valuations for insurance, inheritance or family division.
The Fair in Beverley Hills is long over though you can still see the exhibits by clicking on the highlight here. Our next exhibit will be in New York at the Armory Fine Art Fair from May 7th - 12th 1999.
Experts and professionals may prefer to go directly to an alphabetical list of Paintings or Sculpture From there you can request the same details of history or provenance, detailed view and relevant references to the literature. Whichever path you take you can effectively walk through our entire gallery.
There is more descriptive text about the site, for instance something about us and what we do and other more general matters such as occasional news and history under All Other Business, which is almost another site in its own right. This area is more textual and less visual.
When we exhibit publicly you can see what we are up to by clicking Fair and there is a small exhibit of recent acquisitions or other specially grouped items. You can always return to the page you have just left by clickingBack, from anywhere.
But please note that we are not a virtual gallery - we are a REAL gallery with real objects and you can really visit us by coming to London and making an appointment (for convenience you can use Mailto but our e-mail address and fax number are also printed at the top and bottom of this page and on many other pages too). Our address can also be found in the trade press advertisements. All the items shown are for sale (subject to being unsold) and you can also request a price by identifying yourself. By the same means you may wish just to make direct contact with us to discuss some topic or other and we shall always attempt to answer your query or acknowledge your expertise.
But the pleasures of visiting a commercial art gallery, for those not familiar with it, are not confined to seeing the art in a comfortable setting. You can get contact with art loving people, and we have tried to give an idea of this by a series a buttons to click on in the section labelled AOB (for All Other Business) which is updated from time to time. This section too is where there are details of art fairs at which you can see our works, art world gossip, history, news, details of public exhibitions worth visiting, maybe reviews in some cases, jokes, recommended restaurants, recipes etc. You can also find a history of the gallery, a view of it, and some details of the owners and who they think they are.
We change and update these texts from time to time, just as we change the paintings and works of art, removing them as they sell, adding new ones as they become available.
You will have noticed that the images have been divided into categories: Sculpture and Painting, which are our primary areas of interest, and each is in turn split up. For the Sculpture most people have found it convenient to divide by medium e.g. Bronze, Wood, Marble, Terracotta (including ceramics), Other (including Ivory, wax etc.) & Medals and Plaquettes.
The paintings on the other hand, mostly oil on canvas or panel, are divided for convenience into subject matter e.g. Figurative (including religious, mythological and allegorical), Portrait, Still Life, Landscape and Latin American (Vice Royal) paintings - they are all framed but the frame is not usually shown.
These categories will always be somewhat arbitrary but you should be able to click through them easily enough and find something you like. Sometimes the same object may appear in more than one category - we have not been embarrassed to do this. In addition we have in most cases added a short note to try to explain what is meant by the category, which you can click into or ignore in each selection.
The whole exhibit should be thought of as our up-to-date catalogue of an exhibition. It is not a substitute for the gallery itself, but a reminder or an appetizer. We still believe that there is, and can be, no substitute for seeing the original paintings, and this applies even more strongly to three dimensional objects, the sculptures. This ultimately is the reason why we, or you, or anyone, might wish to own them.
You can see a selection of our works of art that we exhibited at Beverly Hills from October 29th to November 3rd 1998 if you did not make it or wish to remind yourself of what you saw. Click on Fair to see what we exhibited there.
Whoever you are I hope you enjoy your trip round our gallery. Professionals will know what they are looking for and amateurs will fall on things by chance. But if you are a rank novice may I suggest you just go through it and, without thought of the cost, choose something for yourself, as it were for a personal gift from me. And then choose something you would give to someone else who is dear to you. Finally choose something you would not accept under any circumstances. We would welcome constructive comments - and if you wish - let us know your choices.
For this, or indeed if you would like further information on any of the works of art, or would like to come and see us, make an appointment for a visit, or ask a price, you can contact us by clicking on contact e-mail
Or use your own e-mail to write to us at info@wengraf.com
Thank you for being so patient as to read this far.
